Brotherhood has been a frequently talked about movie particularly among my peers because we primarily are the target audience; teenagers aged 15-19 living in London. Also the movie features some of my favourite artists such as Krept and Konan, Chip, Stormzy and more which are also hot artists for teenagers and young adults in London. I found the movie enjoyable as it was fast-paced, unique and exciting and I could relate to most of the themes explored in the film, however I did not think that it was the best out of the trilogy and at times couldn't see how the movie linked to the previous two films Kidadulthood and Adulthood. Kidadulthood and Adulthood both explored the life of main character Sam, and displayed how his irrational choices had negative effects on him. Brotherhood was sort of similar however i felt the storyline wasn't as clear as in the other two movies.
Also, during the summer I began watching a documentary series titled "Gangland". I began watching Gangland after I saw it was a trending topic on social media. The documentary aired on Channel 5 and it is based on gangs in London. I usually don't watch TV but occasionally watch documentaries so I was interested to see what it was all about. The show was 1hour long but within the first ten minutes, I found that I was very disappointed with the show. I found that the documentary was strongly based on unfair racial stereotypes and definitely anchored the audience to believe that young black boys in London are the only ones involved in gangs, which is not true. As well as this, the directors did not show how they were helping to improve the lives of these black boys or showing how they're lives had been changed and it felt as though they were just advertising gang culture even more. After looking on Youtube and other social media platforms such as twitter and snapchat, I saw that it was not only myself that felt disappointed in the documentary but others were also unhappy and had left negative reviews. The show showed the lifestyle of those in gangs and themes like Knife crime and drug trafficking were also explored.
Apart from film and tv this summer, I have also been keeping up to date with the music scene. I have been closely following my favourite artist Drake, and was particularly pleased with his new album "Views", especially because two of the songs on his album; "Too Good" and "Work" feature one of my other favourite artists Rihanna.
